USJ Faculty of Health Sciences invited to participate in the Opening of Inmates and Juvenile Delinquents’ Handicraft Exhibition 2024

On July 5, 2024, the ” Inmates and Juvenile Delinquents’ Handicraft Exhibition 2024″ was held at the Macao Science Center’s Convention Hall, jointly organized by the Correctional Services Bureau and the Macao Science Center, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Social Welfare Bureau, and the Education and Youth Development Bureau.



On July 5, 2024, the ” Inmates and Juvenile Delinquents’ Handicraft Exhibition 2024″ was held at the MacaoScience Center’s Convention Hall, jointly organised by the Correctional Services Bureau and the Macao Science Center, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Social Welfare Bureau, and the Education and Youth Development Bureau. The Correctional Services Bureau hopes to use the exhibition as a platform to showcase inmates and juvenile delinquents’ learning achievements and determination to start fresh, raising support and acceptance from the society on their rehabilitation journey.

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Jacky Ho received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Director of the Correctional Services, Cheng Fong Meng. The director expressed his gratitude for the USJ’s long-term support and assistances to their correctional services. The ceremony was also attended by the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Programme Leader of the Prison Outreach Programme, Prof. Helen Liu.

The booth of students from the Department of Social Work of the USJ attracted much attention. It is learned that the booth games were designed to promote the prison education. The students were actively engaged with professionalism and concentration, and introduced the Prison Programme to the visitors. The booth game was coordinated by the USJ students, namely Long Wan Cheong, Si Tou Ka Wai, Wong wai hong, Cheong Ngai Fai and Cheong Choi San.

At the event site, the students enthusiastically explained to the visitors the significance and core value of the prison outreach program. Through the display of elaborately designed promotional materials and patient answering of questions, more people were made aware of the positive role of this educational program in helping inmates reintegrate into society and realize their self-worth.

The USJ has always attached great importance to the expansion of social services and education. The participation of students from the Department of Social Work this time not only reflects the social responsibility of the university but also contributes to the development of prison education.

It is believed that in the future, the USJ will continue to move forward on the path of social services and educational innovation and play a greater role in the harmony and progress of society.
