Mr. LEI Chan Pong, Deputy Director of Department of Studies and Curriculum Development of Pui Ching Middle School, gave a public lecture titled “Nurturing Holistic Learners: The Multifaceted Roles of Teacher” to students of the PGDE programme.
On the 21st of May, 2024, students of the PGDE programme attended an eye-opening public lecture titled “Nurturing Holistic Learners: The Multifaceted Roles of Teacher” by distinguished guest speaker Mr. LEI Chan Pong, the Deputy Director of Department of Studies and Curriculum Development of Pui Ching Middle School. The speaker explored the evolving roles of teachers, focusing on the debate between generalist and specialist educators. He introduced the concepts of “specialised generalists” and “generalised specialists,” advocating for a flexible teaching approach that combines broad knowledge with deep expertise in specific areas.
The lecture emphasized the importance of adaptability in education, encouraging teachers to bridge the gap between generalist and specialist roles. The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, where students engaged actively with the speaker, reflecting on the insights shared and discussing their implications for their future careers in education.
