Prof. Ruth Hayhoe, from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, and Adjunct Professor at the USJ School of Education, renowned for her expertise in Chinese culture and Christian universities in China, concluded her visit at USJ with two public lectures and one school and library visit.
The Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE) at the USJ School of Education hosted a series of public lectures and a school visit to Colégio Diocesano de São José 2 (CDSJ2) with Prof. Ruth Hayhoe from 25 to 27 November, 2023.
Prof. Ruth Hayhoe, renowned for her expertise in Chinese culture and Christian universities education in China, is a professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the School of Education of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ).
Prof. Hayhoe commenced her tour at USJ with a captivating public lecture titled “The Teacher in Chinese Culture: Reflections on a Lifetime of Personal Encounters” at the Dom Bosco Auditorium on 25 November, sharing profound insights derived from her extensive experiences, offering a thought-provoking discourse. This lecture was moderated by Prof. Rochelle Ge, Dean of the School of Education.
On 27 November, Prof. Hayhoe visited CDSJ2 and the library at the Saint Joseph’s Seminary Campus, fostering meaningful interactions and knowledge exchange with teachers and students there. Prof. Hayhoe concluded her visit with another public lecture titled “Liberal Arts and the Legacy of China’s Christian Universities” at the Dom Bosco Auditorium in the evening. This lecture was moderated by Prof. Miranda Mak, Coordinator of the DLCRE. Prof. Hayhoe shared insights from a newly published book and delved into the profound impact of liberal arts within the context of China’s Christian educational heritage. The lecture was attended by the Vice-rector for Research, Prof. Keith Morrison, and the Dean of the School of Education, Prof. Rochelle Ge.
