The Macao Association of Chinese and Western Philosophy (MACWP), formed by a group of USJ Philosophy Alumni, held its first 2022 Spring Philosophy Salon under the teme “A Taste of Existentialism in Macao”.

On 15 February 2022, the Macao Association of Chinese and Western Philosophy 澳門中西哲學學會 (MACWP) held its first event at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Seminary Campus on the theme “A Taste of Existentialism in Macao”. A turnout of around 30 guests enjoyed the event. Professor Franz Gassner, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy (FRSP), and Dr. Tyler McNabb, Associate Professor of Philosophy of FRSP, were invited guest speakers, sharing their thoughts on crucial questions prepared by the association.

Followed by a tour to the new Seminary Library, the guests got impressed by the number of books available in philosophy, ethics, religious studies, and theology. The event concluded with a networking session, gathering and uniting people who are interested in philosophy to exchange topics.

MACWP was established in January 2022 by a group of USJ Philosophy Alumni, including: Joshua Yuan, Maggie Chiang, Terence Hun, Waison Lei and Chon Lai. The Association aims to bring together the essence of Chinese and Western thought, to promote in-depth exchange of diverse cultures, and to foster philosophical reflection among the population. The association will contribute to the harmonious development of Macao as a base for exchange and cooperation with the Chinese mainstream culture in co-existence with multiple other cultures and ways of thinking.
