USJ signs a Collaborative Project with the Macao Social Workers Association

The creation of a continuing education programme for Macao social workers to meet professional licensing and registration requirements is signalled with the signing of a MOU between USJ and the Macao Social Workers Association on 3 May.



On the morning of May 3rd, the creation of a continuing education programme for Macao social workers to meet professional licensing and registration requirements is signalled with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University of Saint Joseph(USJ) and the Macao Social Workers Association represented by Rector Rev. Prof. Stephen Morgan and Director Cheong Un Si respectively.

The programme aims to contribute to the professionalization of social work in Macao and collaboratively develop guidelines for social services focusing on three areas: continuing education, research, and regional specialization. A continuing education programme will help Macao social workers meet professional licensing and registration requirements through international dialogue and experiential learning. Research aimed at social services to discover evidenced-based practices will be promoted for the ‘localization of practice.’ Finally, specialization will be developed for social work in the Greater Bay Area.

The Head of the Department of Social Work at USJ, Prof. Jacky Ho, is responsible for the project. He points out that the goal of collaboration is to promote professionalism through the development of training programmes and research projects, and to contribute toward and deepen SDG 4 – Quality education and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the goals by building strategic partnerships among social service organisations.

President of Macao Social Workers Association, Mr Leong Wai Feng, Vice President of Macao Social Workers Association, Ms Chau Wai I, and Vice Directors of Macao Social Workers Association, Ms Chio Lan Ieng and Ms Cheong Pek Kei were in attendance at the signing ceremony. Additionally, Research Coordinator for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, Prof. Helen Liu, and senior lecturers Ng Un Ieng and Andrew Ng were also present.
