The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) participated in the “Brain Trekking 2024 Macao Charity Walk,” an event co-organised by the Macao Neuromedical Society and the CUHK Otto Wong Brain Tumour Centre, held at Fisherman’s Wharf. Over 150 participants joined the walk, aimed at raising public awareness of multilineage glioblastoma in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Macao.

Dr. Jacky Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, led a group of students who engaged in volunteer activities organized for the event. This experience not only allowed students to grasp the significance of the initiative but also emphasized the importance of healthy living. Participants gained practical experience while enhancing their social and leadership skills.

The event also served to promote public welfare, encouraging students to support brain tumor patients and their families. By deepening their understanding of the patients’ needs throughout the treatment process, students reflected on the role and function of social work within the medical system, ensuring patients receive the appropriate support.

Additionally, students interested in public health had the opportunity to explore related fields, broaden their knowledge on pertinent issues, and engage in voluntary work focused on service learning. The Faculty of Health Sciences at USJ is dedicated to advancing community health and medical development. Through innovative scientific methods, students are encouraged to connect with the community, understand societal challenges, and enhance their professional practice capabilities.
