An extensive study conducted by USJ’s Macao Observatory for Social Development and the Social Services Committee of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions reveals employment and living conditions of the elderly in Macao.
The Macao Observatory for Social Development (MOSD) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Social Services Committee of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) conducted a study on the “Employment and Living Conditions of the Elderly in Macau” aimed to provide a better insight for local government entities to continue to improve the living conditions of the elderly and provide appropriate support for their mental well-being.
A press conference was held on July 4, 2023, and the findings were presented by Legislative Council member and Deputy Director of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) Ms. Lei Cheng I, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the MOSD Prof. Jacky Ho, Centre Officer of MOSD Mr. Erik Kok, Director of the Social Services Committee of FAOM Ms. Ieong Sok Cheong, and Deputy Director of the Social Services Committee of FAOM Ms. Ma Wan Nei.
The study primarily focused on the employment inclusiveness of middle-aged and elderly individuals, psychological stress, anxiety and loneliness experienced by elderly, their living environment, and support.
