The Macao Institute of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Relics and the USJ Library jointly held a workshop on “Principles and Methods of Anoxic Disinfestation Technology” on 5th of March.
On Saturday, 5th of March, 2022, the Macao Institute of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Relics (MICRCR) and the Library of the University of Saint Josep (USJ) jointly held a workshop on “Principles and Methods of Anoxic Disinfestation Technology” at USJ Ilha Verde Campus.
The workshop included theoretical explanations and practical demonstrations to give participants a better understanding of book pest control.
Macao’s climate is warm and humid, and the problem of insect pests in books is serious and prominent. The USJ Library deals with thousands of books and paper documents affected by insect pests every year, therefore pest control work is vital.
Last year, the USJ Library installed the “EXPM Anoxia Disinfestation Bubble Kit” from Portugal, which is now in operation. The books and archives in the library are processed according to international standards, and the results are very satisfactory. By operating this system, Mr. Francisco Chan, the president of MICRCR, explained Macao’s common pest problems and physical control methods to the participants and shared the principles and precautions of anoxic treatment to pests.
Through the workshop, participants learned about the efficiency of the equipment, pest control steps, and how to use physical methods to treat the pests that destroy books and paper documents.
