The Faculty of Health Sciences of USJ and the Faculty of Education and Psychology UCP have partnered on a collaborative two-week project with the theme “Families and Technology: Challenges and Opportunities” exploring the impact of technology on families and couples.

The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao and the Faculty of Education and Psychology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Porto (UCP)  have partnered on a collaborative two-week project with the theme “Families and Technology: Challenges and Opportunities” exploring the impact of technology on families and couples.

Within the scope of the Collaborative Online International Learning model, students from the USJ’s Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy programme (Family and Marriage Counselling module) and UCP’s Master in Psychology – Clinical and Health Psychology specialization area (Clinical Assessment and Intervention with Adults), worked collaboratively on this project.

The project, coordinated by Visiting Academic Prof. Vânia Sousa Lima, involved a total of 51 students from 9 different nationalities. The students examined the challenges and opportunities that the use of technology poses for families and couples, while also discussing the responsibilities and skills required of mental health professionals working with this population.

The collaboration concluded with an online discussion session on May 22nd, where participants emphasized the importance of respecting cultural diversity, encouraging dialogue, and fostering collaboration as key to personal and professional development in the field of mental health.

Both faculties are committed to fostering the next generation of mental health professionals to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
