On June 20, 2024, USJ Rector, Rev’d Prof. Stephen Morgan with Vice-rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa and Ms. Ivy Tran, Head of Vietnam Recruitment, visited the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City’s (UEH) dynamic campus in Vietnam. The USJ Delegation was warmly received by UEH President Prof. Su Dinh Thanh, Vice-President Dr. Dinh Cong Khai, Vice-Rector of the College of Technology and Design Dr. Thai Kim Phung, Vice-Dean of the School of Media and Design Dr. Yi Dong Su, Deputy Head of Research at the Development and Global Engagement Department Assoc. Prof. Pham Duong Phuong Thao, Researcher at the Development and Global Engagement Department Dr. Le Hoang Yen Khanh, and School of Media Design Professors MA. Duong Thi Thuy Trang and Tran Le Quynh Anh.
During the visit, President Su Dinh Thanh expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming collaborations with USJ as established institutions in their respective communities and a shared vision for advancing higher education and research. Rector Morgan shared warm remarks on the institutions’ joint endeavours thus far, including the recently concluded workshop series “City Project: Design and Technology for Sustainable Development” hosted at USJ Macao and the delightful participation of UEH students.
Rector Morgan and President Su Dinh Thanh proceeded to sign a Memorandum of Agreement as a confident step towards the fruition of various planned projects, including visiting public lectures, hands-on workshops for students, co-organising conferences, delivering keynotes and creation of scholarship opportunities, across activities in Vietnam and Macao for the upcoming academic year.
Since last year, USJ has closely engaged with UEH to explore opportunities for their students and community members, and they anticipate welcoming the first cohort of students in the double-degree programme in Media, Design and Communication, a pilot programme between USJ’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities and UEH’s School of Media Design.
