USJ Macao signed a MoU with Zhaoqing University to establish a co-operative relationship and emphasised the importance of nurturing high-quality talents for the country and the Greater Bay Area, as well as promoting innovation in education.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) received a delegation from Zhaoqing University on the 14th of November, 2024. The delegation, led by Vice-President Prof. Hu Wentao, was welcomed by USJ’s Rector, Rev’d. Professor Stephen Morgan. Both universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), represented by USJ’s Vice-Rector Teresa Loong, and the Vice-President Prof. Hu Wentao, respectively, and expressed their eagerness to establish a co-operative relationship and emphasised the importance of nurturing high-quality talents for the country and the Greater Bay Area, as well as promoting innovation in education.
The MOU outlines a number of areas of co-operation, including teacher, researcher, and student exchange visits, short-term lectures, academic seminars, and research talks. The memorandum aims to promote academic and educational development and to jointly build a platform for technological innovation.
Present at the MoU signing ceremony from USJ included the Rector Reverend Professor Stephen Morgan, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law Prof. Jenny Oliveros Lao, Dean of the School of Education Prof. Rochelle Ge, Dean of the Institute of Data Engineering and Science Prof. George Du, Coordinator of the Master of Environmental Science and Management programme Prof. Karen Tagulao, and Head of the Domestic Student Recruitment Office Mr. Ben Lei. Members from Zhaoqing University also included Director of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Foreign Affairs Professor Li Sai-Nam, Director of Science and Technology Professor Xu Shihe, Director of the Board of Trustees of the Faculty of Tourism and History Yang Xuemei, Associate Dean of Mathematics and Statistics Professor Ching Chung-wah, and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education and Science Associate Professor Zeng Miaomiao.
Following the MoU signing, Prof. Hu Wentao delivered an open lecture on ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Culture as the Guidance for Cultural Advancement in the New Era – Understanding its Systematic Structure and Fundamental Concepts’ held at the Fátima Auditorium of the USJ Ilha Verde Campus.
This open lecture is the third of the USJ National Education Series, organised by USJ to promote awareness of the country’s history, culture, social and political systems among students, teaching staff and members of the public for the year of the Double Celebrations.
In the lecture, Professor Hu shared his views on the development of a strong cultural nation, explored the background, basic framework, core meaning and practical value of Jinping’s Cultural Thought in the current society, and guided the participants to understand how to apply these thoughts in their practical work in order to promote social development and cultural prosperity.
