The visit, part of the module LPY421 – Assessment of Special Educational Needs, was guided by Prof. Vitor Teixeira and provided a unique blend of learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

A group of five Bachelor of Psychology (BPY) students from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macao — Leo, Quinton, Kary, Piano, and Vicky — recently embarked on an enriching field trip to the Vocational Training Council (VTC) in Hong Kong. The visit, part of the module LPY421 – Assessment of Special Educational Needs, was guided by Prof. Vitor Teixeira and provided a unique blend of learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

The morning began at the Shine Skills Centre, where students explored its specialised training programmes for individuals with disabilities. An engaging presentation by a passionate counselor set the tone, followed by visits to the boarding facilities and various classrooms offering courses like Commercial and Retailing Service (CRS), Office Practice, Digital Shop Operation, Catering Service, and Bakery and Café Operation. Students also toured the Shine Technical Aids and Resource Centre, which showcases innovative solutions for accessibility and inclusivity.

After lunch at the VTC social enterprise restaurant in Morrison Hill, the group participated in a knowledge-sharing session. Prof. Vitor Teixeira delivered a talk titled “Inclusive Education in the GBA – Macao”, designed in collaboration with the BPY students, to the VTC staff.

The VTC, Hong Kong’s largest vocational and professional education provider, is renowned for its dedication to empowering individuals with practical skills and career opportunities, including people with disabilities. This visit was a testament to their impactful work and commitment to inclusion.

USJ extends its heartfelt gratitude to VTC for this invaluable experience and applauds their remarkable efforts in fostering a more inclusive society. Special thanks go to Raymond Chan for being an exceptional host and ensuring a truly memorable experience.
