On 2 December 2024, a delegation from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) led by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), Prof. Carlos Sena Caires, visited the Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) and South China University of Technology (SCUT) in Guangzhou.
On 2 December 2024, a delegation from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) led by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), Prof. Carlos Sena Caires, visited the Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) and South China University of Technology (SCUT) in Guangzhou. The delegation includes Prof. Nuno Soares, Head of the Department of Architecture and Design of FAH, visiting academic Prof. Vincent Ho, and Mr David Yang, Head of the Institutional Development Office (IDO).
In the morning meeting with the College of Art and Design (CAD) – GDUT, the delegation was welcomed by the leaders of GDUT, including Deputy director of International Affairs Office, Mr. Cao Feng; Chairman of CAD, Prof. Luo Shengjing; Deputy dean of CAD, Prof. Tang Xiaoying; Chief of International Affairs Office, Miss. Li lei among others.
In the afternoon meeting with the School of Architecture – SCUT, the delegation was welcomed by the leaders of SCUT, including Deputy director of International Affairs Office, Prof. Yu Feng; Deputy dean of SA, Prof. Su Ping; Prof. Zhu Xiaolei; Prof. Xu Haohao.
During the morning and afternoon sessions, Prof. Carlos and representatives from SAD-GDUT and SA-SCUT explored the possibilities of academic cooperation. Topics covered a broad range of issues, such as student and faculty exchange, joint research projects, collaborative forums, the establishment of a joint academic platform, joint applications for research grants, and student recruitment. The participants reached a preliminary agreement on these matters and expressed their enthusiasm for future collaborations.
Mr. David Yang and the deputy Directors of the international offices from two universities discussed the possibility of establishing a “formal cooperative relationship”. GDUT has expressed its willingness to sign a university-level MOU and will send a delegation to USJ to attend the MOU signing ceremony at the early of 2025; SCUT has agreed to sign an MOU between FAH-USJ and SA-SCUT. Both universities’ international offices will be responsible for coordinating the MOU-related matters.
Following the meeting, the USJ delegation visited various teaching facilities, laboratories, and exhibition halls at GDUT and SCUT.
