Assistant Professor Jayson Lou, Coordinator for the Master of Social Work at USJ, shared his insights on the challenges of an ageing society with young participants at the “Caring for Youth” competition, emphasizing the importance of creating age-friendly communities and ensuring a high quality of life for the elderly.

Assistant Professor Jayson Lou, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Social Work at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Saint Joseph, was invited as a guest of honour at the Youth Volunteer Idea Competition “Caring for Youth”, sponsored by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ) and organised by the “Associação dos Jovens Voluntários de Serviço Social da Areia Preta de Macau”, on the 20th 0f April 2024, where he shared his views on the theme of “ageing society” with the participating young people at the University’s Ilha Verde campus.

As Macao becomes an ageing society, or even a super-ageing society, how to enable the elderly to live freely and with dignity will become one of the most important issues in society. This activity shared with the youth the characteristics of an age-friendly community and how to build a good quality of life for society.

On the same day, the participants also took part in the activities of the USJ International Cultural Carnival, including an experiential workshop on the theme of the elderly experience, to further experience the deterioration of physical functions of the elderly and to bring more thoughts to the Youth Volunteer Idea Competition in which they had participated.
