This event allowed USJ staff and students to deepen their understanding of global wellness trends while reinforcing their commitment to promoting environmental and social responsibility, encouraging students to engage in meaningful discussions and activities that promote a balanced and sustainable lifestyle.
The University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Green Committee and Green Club, recently participated in Wynn Macau’s exclusive wellness cocktail event, “Beyond the Gym: Global Perspectives on Fitness & Wellness.” The event, held on November 19, 2024, at the Wynn Macau Ballroom, brought together professionals, academics, and wellness enthusiasts to explore emerging trends in fitness, mental resilience, and sustainable health practices.
The evening featured two panel discussions led by renowned experts in the wellness and fitness industries. The first panel, titled “Redefining Fitness: Embracing Trends, Enhancing Performance, and Building Mental Resilience,” included Mr. Moritz Fürste, co-founder of HYROX, former professional field hockey player, and two-time Olympic gold medalist; and Mr. António Barrias, Head Coach and Programmer at the Underground Online Coaching & Education Platform, specialising in CrossFit and IFBB Pro Circuit training. The session was moderated by Mr. Ed Haynes, CEO of Coastal Fitness HK, and focused on how new fitness trends and mental resilience strategies are reshaping the global wellness landscape.
While, the second panel, “Holistic Health: Integrating Functional Movement, Injury Prevention, and Balanced Nutrition,” featured Ms. Kit Man Ao, Doctor of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University, USA, and Ms. Trixie Velez, Co-founder and Director of DEFIN8 Fitness, a leading figure in elite fitness training. The session was moderated by Ms. Cíntia Martins, Macau Global Wellness Ambassador and USJ alumna, and it explored the integration of physical therapy, injury prevention, and nutrition for sustainable health.
This event allowed USJ staff and students to deepen their understanding of global wellness trends while reinforcing their commitment to promoting environmental and social responsibility, encouraging students to engage in meaningful discussions and activities that promote a balanced and sustainable lifestyle. This collaboration with Wynn Resorts marked another milestone in the university’s ongoing efforts to integrate wellness and sustainability into its academic and community endeavours.
