To help students stay informed about the latest employment opportunities, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organized a seminar titled “Introduction to Youth Employment Services and Programs” on 14 March. The event featured representatives from the Labour Affairs Bureau, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, and MGM as speakers, attracting students of various nationalities from the university.
This seminar was part of the USJ Career Fair 2025 series and took place in the afternoon at the Ilha Verde Campus. The session covered topics such as the current state of Macao’s job market, youth employment support services, and an introduction to special employment programs, aiming to provide students with practical career guidance and future career planning advice. The representative from the Labour Affairs Bureau’s Employment Department, kicked off the event by providing an in-depth yet accessible overview of Macao’s employment landscape. He used occupational distribution charts to illustrate the structure of Macao’s labor market and the distribution of professions. He also discussed the current situation under Macao’s “1+4” economic diversification strategy, emphasizing future talent demand trends. Additionally, he detailed five key employment support services offered by the Labour Affairs Bureau for youth, including local internship programs and the mainland internship program, designed to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their competitiveness.
To further explain Macao’s employment situation, the seminar showcased a video about cultivating industry talent in line with the 1+4 strategy, which shared real-life examples of how policies and programs are helping to meet industry talent needs. The Labour Affairs Bureau representative also explained various employment promotion measures, such as the resident employment support program, the Youth Career Expo, and the unique features of the employment + training special program, highlighting its diverse range of job opportunities. The seminar concluded with an introduction to the 2025 employment promotion calendar, encouraging young students to actively participate in upcoming events and prepare for their future career paths.
Representatives from Melco Resorts & Entertainment and MGM provided insights from an enterprise perspective, introducing their special employment programs. The MGM representative shared the company’s market trends and future development directions, guiding students to reflect on how their strengths align with market demands through interactive questions. The representative also presented data on current job vacancies and unemployment rates in Macao, helping students gain a clearer understanding of the job market’s current state and challenges. On the other hand, the representative from Melco Resorts & Entertainment introduced the company’s operations, providing a detailed overview of its diverse business scope, including its development in entertainment, hospitality, and other sectors. Through video presentations, students were able to gain a more intuitive understanding of the company’s operational model and work environment, further deepening their knowledge of the industry.
