The University of Saint Joseph celebrated the official opening of the “Guilherme Lo & Teresa Lei Lo Library”, also known as the “Lo Library”, on the 6th January, 2025.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) celebrated the official opening of the “Guilherme Lo & Teresa Lei Lo Library”, also known as the “Lo Library”, on the 6th January, 2025. The event followed the Christmastide Mass held at the Holy Cross Chapel at USJ Ilha Verde Campus, celebrated by the Bishop of Macao and Chancellor of USJ, His Excellency Bishop Stephen Lee Bun Sang
The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Lo family including, the benefactor whose support made the new library possible, including Mrs. Teresa do Menino Jesus Lei Lo, Ms. Francisca Lo, Mr. Lucas Lo, Ms. Monica Lo, Mr. Paulo Lo, Ms. Silvia Lo, Mr. João Baptista Lo, and Ms. May Lo, and members of the USJ community including the Bishop Lee, Rector, Prof. Stephen Morgan, Vice-Rectors Prof. Zhang Shuguang and Dr. Teresa Loong, Administrator, Dr. Alejandro Salcedo, along with administrative and academic staff members, and students.
In his address, Professor Morgan, expressed gratitude to the benefactors to the late Guilherme Lo and his wife Teresa Lei Lo, and emphasised the importance of the new library as a resource for knowledge and learning. He noted that its position at the heart of the University’s main campus was a powerful sign of the USJ’s commitment to the search for truth.
Following Rector’s speech, Mrs. Teresa Lei Lo and Bishop Stephen Lee Bun Sang led the unveiling of the library’s official signage, symbolising the opening of a new chapter in the growing history of USJ. The ceremony also included a blessing of the library, conducted by Bishop Lee, which was attended by the Lo family after the Rector officially opened the library doors.
The University expresses its deepest gratitude to the Lo family for their generous support to USJ. Apart from the “Dr. Lucas Lo Scholarship Programme”, which has helped 12 students per year undertake study at USJ, Dr. Lo has also donated the budget for the library’s book purchases for this year.
The event concluded with a speech by Ms. Francisca Lo, daughter of the late Guilherme Lo and his wife Teresa Lei Lo, expressing her family’s legacy wish to contribute to the betterment of society and the nurturing of the next generation of talent in Macao through the new library.
