USJ Macao and ISCAP-P.Porto Advance Academic Collaboration on New PhD Programme in Intercultural Studies for Innovation

Last week, a delegation of the USJ Macao visited the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP-P. Porto) to reinforce the existing academic and research collaboration and to explore opportunities to develop new forms of partnership. The visit culminated with a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding between both institutions.
On 5th March, a delegation of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao visited the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP-P. Porto) to reinforce the existing academic and research collaboration and to explore opportunities to develop new forms of partnership. The delegation headed by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, engaged in discussions with ISCAP-P.Porto representatives focused on areas of mutual interest, including joint workshops, potential for dual degrees, and exchange programmes, and emphasised the importance of internationalisation and sustainability in the partnership.
The visit culminated with a significant event – the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both institutions. This 3-year agreement is a pivotal step in this partnership, aiming to foster scientific and technical academic activities, such as a partnership in teaching, research, and innovation, and to collaborate in the Postgraduate Programme “PhD in Intercultural Studies for Innovation”. The agreement also paves the way for promote the adoption of practices of interculturality, development and innovation by the local business and community; promote training opportunities in intercultural, development and innovation skills and to stimulate the development of collaborative ecosystems between the community, companies, R&D centers and higher education institutions and other activities of mutual interest.
The President of ISCAP-P.Porto, Prof. Manuel Moreira da Silva, expressed his enthusiasm for the unique nature of this partnership. He highlighted that this MOU signed with USJ marks a significant milestone, as it is the first collaboration between a Higher Education Institution in Macao SAR and ISCAP-P. Porto in the new PhD programme.
The USJ Vice-Rector, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, echoed the unique role of Macao SAR as a Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The background history of USJ and the signing of this MOU are significant steps towards promoting the cultural and artistic academic exchange between Macao SAR and Portugal.
