The Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ Macao), Rev’d Prof. Stephen Morgan, was elected First Vice-President of the Association of Universities of Asia and The Pacific (AUAP) at the 17th AUAP General Conference 2024, for a term of two years from the 1st of January, 2025, to the 31st of December, 2026.
The Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ Macao), Rev’d Prof. Stephen Morgan, was elected First Vice-President of the Association of Universities of Asia and The Pacific (AUAP) at the 17th AUAP General Conference 2024 themed: “The Paradigm Shift in Higher Education: Values for Life”, hosted by Jagran Lakecity University in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India for a term of two years from the 1st of January, 2025, to the 31st of December, 2026. The results, announced on the second day of the General Conference last week, give USJ Macao the opportunity to represent Macao, China, on the Global stage, the main platform for interaction and collaboration between universities in Asia and the Pacific region.
In his address as the First Vice-President of the AUAP, Rector said he is honoured to join the AUAP Leadership and affirmed his commitment to support AUAP and its mission and to be a voice for Macao amongst the community of Universities across the Asia Pacific as a great privilege.”
USJ Macao has been a member of AUAP since 2020, and Rector served on the AUAP Executive Board from 2023 through 2024. This engagement in AUAP recognises USJ’s contribution to numerous AUAP initiatives.
During the General Conference, Rector also participated as a panel member during one of the sessions titled ‘Technology and Ethics: Navigating the Digital Frontier’ for an audience of over 100 distinguished higher education industry leaders from 30+ higher institutions across Asia, Europe and America.
Rector’s talk resonated with a diverse audience, emphasizing the critical intersection of technology and ethics in today’s digital age. As we continue to advance into uncharted technological territories, the insights shared by Rector Morgan serve as a vital reminder of our collective responsibility to navigate these challenges thoughtfully.
The General Conference was highly successful, featuring remarkable and insightful presentations related to various fields and valuable networking opportunities.
The AUAP is a non-government organisation (ONG) holding the highest formal consultation rights with UNESCO. Its primary purpose is to be the main platform for interaction and collaboration among its members and to be the voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific.
