USJ School of Education Visits CDSJ5 to exchange Inclusive Education Experience on the “Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment Education Programme”.

To gain insights into inclusive education in Macao, Prof. Rochelle Ge, Dean of the School of Education (SED) of USJ, alongside with Prof. Frances Lee, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Education, and Prof. Miranda Mak, Coordinator for the Bishop Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE) visited Colégio Diocesano de São José 5 (CDSJ5). The USJ delegation was warmly welcomed by Principal Wong Kin Man. The visit aimed to share experience on inclusive education and to learn about the successful implementation of the “Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment Education Programme” for future collaboration opportunities.

The “Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment Education Programme” has been implemented by CDSJ5 since 2018 under the vigorous support of the Macau Diocese. The programme promotes mutual learning and growth between students with and without hearing impairments. In the classroom, a sign language teacher joins the lesson and collaborates with another teacher by using both sign and spoken language, creating a bilingual and inclusive learning environment for all students.

The School of Education, committed to advancing quality and equity in higher-education through education, research, and community engagement, has offered a Master’s degree programme in Special Needs and Inclusive Education since 2016.
