USJ Welcomes Delegation from the Honours College of Capital Normal University

The University of Saint Joseph and the Honours College of Capital Normal University pledged to strengthen discussion on teaching and educational research and announced their expectation to establish future cooperation during campus visit.
On October 18th, 2023, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) welcomed a delegation of teachers and students from the Honours College of Capital Normal University to the Ilha Verde Campus.
The delegation toured various facilities on the USJ campus, including the chapel, the residential hall and various classrooms and studios from the Department of Creative Industries. During the tour, Liu Tianjiao, Deputy Secretary of Honours College, remarked that “the openness of USJ’s learning resources and facilities inspires learning motivation and promotes the development of education”.
After the campus tour, a meeting was held and the delegation was welcomed by USJ’s Vice Rector Prof. Zhang Shuguang, and the Dean of School of Education, Prof. Rochelle Ge.
Vice-Rector Zhang briefly introduced the extensive history, unique background and educational characteristics of USJ, emphasising the importance of education in Macao with the support of the Macao Diocese. In particular, he highlighted the internationalisation, the comprehensive implementation of English language teaching and the focus on small class system and professional higher education offered at USJ.
Prof. Rochelle Ge also introduced the mission of the faculty, noting that the primary social responsibility of the School of Education at USJ is to train teachers for Macau, with a special focus on training English and Portuguese language teachers, and highlighting the characteristics of inclusive education. In addition, Prof Ge also introduced the focus of the Faculty’s two main centres on Chinese education and the Teacher’s Professional Development Center.
Finally, Mr Liu Tianjiao, Deputy Secretary of the Honours College, introduced the college’s teaching characteristics and students’ status, and Mr Guo Junxiong, Chairman of Zen King Technology Holding Ltd, shared the University’s experience in talent development.
During the sharing, Honours College students and USJ professors also discussed programmes with Macau-specific features.
In conclusion, the Honours College of Capital Normal University expressed the hope for both institutions to strengthen the discussion of teaching and educational research, and expressed their expectation to establish future cooperation with USJ, and Prof Ge made suggestions on possible avenues of cooperation.
This visit facilitated academic exchanges and promises to promote the realisation of further collaborative projects between the two Universities in the future.
