Short-films from the USJ’s Bachelor of Communications and Media graduating class of 2023/2024 will be screened in the Auditório Luís Soares of Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design (ESMAD), Portugal, on November 14, as part of their 20th anniversary of “Imagens do Real Imaginado”.
Following the successful launch of the exhibition and movie screening of MOVIEMENT in May 2024, an end-of-year event to celebrate the creative talents of the University of Saint Joseph’s Bachelor of Communications and Media graduating class, selected short films from the exhibition are going to be screened in the Auditório Luís Soares of Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design (ESMAD), Portugal, on November 14, as part of their 20th anniversary of “Imagens do Real Imaginado“.
Prof. José Manuel da Silva Simões, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Communication and Media of the USJ Faculty of Arts and Humanities, will present these short films and will take the opportunity to promote the programme and USJ Macao. The selected works include:
- “The Making of Scary University” by Catarina Torrado
- “Yikes” by John Afonso
- “Listen to Me” by Julian Del Rosario

Catarina Torrado
In the chaotic world of student filmmaking, three friends embark on a frantic mission to create a one-minute horror masterpiece for their class project. Battling against time constraints and a string of hilarious misfortunes, they discover that the most captivating stories often unfold behind the camera. As they navigate through comical mishaps, their friendship is tested, and they realize that the journey itself holds the key to their ultimate success.
Yikes (2023. 8,15’ CN)

“YIKES” is a comedy fiction short film project that satirizes the absurdity of consumerism. The story follows David and Eric, who purchase a VR headset that promises a world without consequences. But does it come with a catch? As they delve deeper into the game, they discover that their actions are not as unhurtful as they had hoped. Through witty dialogue and humorous scenarios, the film explores the dangerous allure that technologies such as VR may bring to the real world. “YIKES” is a fun and entertaining film that invites viewers to question their own relationship with consumer culture and the future of technology.
Listen To Me (2024. 10,31’ CN)
Julian Del Rosario
Jules is tasked to produce the main theme song for a huge dance-festival. Overjoyed, he takes the opportunity but suffers a creative block. He then goes through a personal developmental story – with the help of some friends and insights from the world around him, he overcomes the block and succeeds.
About MOVIEMENT:
“Moviement” centered around the theme of Movement, capturing the fluidity of Macau’s landscapes and the city’s perpetual transformation. The exhibition invited viewers to contemplate the profound dynamics of human connections, emphasizing the transformative power of relationships. The artworks also celebrated individuality and self-acceptance, inspiring personal growth and empowerment.
