USJ’s Macao Observatory for Social Development and The Macau Association for Community Care Children co-organised seminar on national education for children and youth of Greater Bay Area to promote patriotism and cultural understanding.

The “Seminar on National Education for Children and Youth of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area – Love China, Love Macao”, co-organised by the Macao Observatory for Social Development (MOSD) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and The Macau Association for Community Care Children, was held in the afternoon of 2 December 2023 at USJ’s Ilha Verde Campus. The event concluded fruitfully, with participants sharing their ideas on how to promote national education.

During the seminar, the guests shared their views on the present situation regarding children’s health and well-being, as well as their views on the current development and status of national education in Macao, and discussed in depth family education and moral education for young people. They emphasised the need to promote national education from the bottom up, so that young people can gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture in their daily lives and strengthen their sense of national pride.

Prof. Jacky Ho, Director of MOSD and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at USJ, said that it is an important task for the education sector to promote patriotic and national education to cultivate students’ feelings for the country and the nation, and to understand the connection between Macao and the Mainland. He also pointed out the need to expand various exposure levels and explore more platforms for young people to care for and serve the community in the future.

In addition, some participants considered it important to further promote national education. It was suggested that strengthening national education for the younger generation would help enhance young students’ patriotic passion and strengthen their sense of identity and happiness towards the country. By organising national education seminars, it will help to draw the young generation’s attention to the development of the country.

Ms. Rosalina Anok Novo, President of The Macau Association for Community Care Children, concluded the Seminar saying that the Association would continue to work hard to organise more similar projects or activities to stimulate young people’s patriotic passion.
