Students of the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management visited Kashun Environmental Protection Technology Co, Ltd. Plastic Recycling Facility in Macao, on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
On Saturday, 26th of February, 2022, students of the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management (MESM) visited Kashun Environmental Protection Technology Co, Ltd., specifically their Plastic Recycling Facility in Macao.
The company recycles in Macao 10,000 Water Bottles (e.g., Spring) and about 40 tonnes of Big blue and green Garbage bins per year by making pellets (granulat) from them, from which new plastic products can be made. This method realizes the circular economy.
Plastic recycling can conserve precious natural resources (e.g., oil), protect the environment from plastic pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize dependence on landfills/incinerators. The global recycling rate of plastic in 2015 was only 19.5%.
The students were accompanied by Mr. Warren Man Ho Li, who teaches MES104 Pollution and Waste Management, and Prof. Franz Gassner, who teaches MES105 Environmental Management in this Master Programme.
