Diversity at USJ

Dr Teresa Loong, USJ Diversity Officer

“The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) is committed to actively promoting an inclusive culture on campus, values respectful diversity and recognizes that staff and students from different backgrounds and experiences enhance whole-person education, and bring cultural and academic insights to teaching, learning and research. We foster an open, welcoming environment where the university community and members of the public, can collaboratively learn, work, and contribute to the wider society.

USJ respects and values the differences of individuals regardless of gender, identity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or political views. By bringing together diverse views and characteristics, we promote a dynamic, working, and learning environment that drives creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

With this goal in mind USJ, offers a wide array of policies and measures aimed at promoting the accessibility and wellbeing of all our community, such as:

  • Financial, residential, academic, and counselling support mechanisms targeting low-income local and international students.
  • Accommodations for students with special needs.
  • Tracking of gender equality indicators across the USJ community, including students and staff.
  • Maternity and paternity policies that extend beyond the legal requirements in Macao.

We believe diversity enriches our community and is a driving force for our institutional success and for the fulfilment of the university’s mission of promoting a caring and ethically responsible, economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable society. The competencies gained through diverse experiences across campus prepare our students, staff, and faculty to thrive in a global society.”
