Chieng Wei Shieng

Short Bio
Dr Chieng Wei Shieng graduated with a PhD in Cultural Studies from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023. She is interested in pursuing the question, ‘what are Asians thinking’, and to what extent could these kinds of thinking and thoughts be potentials for decolonial options to other ways of doing, thinking and being in today’s world. More specifically, she pursues these potentialities through her research interests, which include thinking about Southeast/Asian knowledges and imaginations of ‘otherwise’ and futurities that include nonhumans, such as technologies, ghosts, monsters, spirits, plants and animals. She enjoys thinking about these by mostly engaging with visual and popular cultures, including contemporary art, film and literature, and whatever that may be considered funny, quirky or strange.
